Hopefully this will be the last weekend of freezing weather for at least a week. I don’t know I’m hearing rumors that the polar vortex might “slosh” (puke?) down into the lower 48 mid-February, but that’s future me’s problem. Today me is enjoying the power of a little drop of water.
I’ve talked up my Freeze Miser (https://www.freezemiser.com/) since I bought one last year. It has saved the farm, and saved me from having to haul hoses, hook them up in the house, then have someone watch the door to ensure the cats don’t get out, Instead, I put the Freeze Miser on the hydrant, lift the handle, and it will drip water to keep it from freezing. This means that on days when the temperature is below freezing I still have a working outdoor hydrant, and I can hook up my hoses (which I keep in the house when it’s this cold) or fill a bucket of water for the chickens.
As I watched the drip of water for a few seconds (and it was warm enough there was just one drip in that time), I realized what power that tiny drop of water has. If it drips into a water trough, it has enough power to create ripples that would keep the surface of the trough from freezing. Here, it drips enough to keep the water flowing both in the hydrant and in the well house.
Just a single drop.
What power does a single drop, a single action have in your life? How can a single drop, a single thought, change the way you’re looking at the world or how you view yourself?
Think about it. One small thing can shift your mood or perhaps spread a little kindness or joy to someone else.
What drops will you let into your life today?
